How We Accelerated Regression Testing from 2 Days to 50 Minutes

Application type: WebHVAC

Brief

Pricebook, a leading provider of HVAC sales software for dealers and distributors, partnered with Sedstart to overcome critical delays in their software release cycle caused by time-intensive manual regression testing.

By automating over 100+ regression test cases with complex flows in just two months using Sedstart’s no-code test automation platform, Pricebook slashed regression testing time from 2 days to just 50 minutes, enabling faster, more reliable releases and freeing QA resources for higher-value work.

Client background

Pricebook delivers industry-specific sales software solutions to the residential HVAC sector. Their product suite includes:

  • Pricebook Plus: A white-labeled dealer-facing platform that enables seamless quoting, equipment selection, and customer management.
  • Pricebook Catalog: A distributor-focused solution that supports dynamic, location-based pricing, product availability, and customized catalog management for dealers.

Pricebook’s core strength lies in its Pricebook DataSource. This is a comprehensive, continuously updated database of HVAC equipment specs, warranties, rebates, and system matchups from all major manufacturers. This data powers both dealer and distributor workflows across the HVAC supply chain.

With frequent release cycles (weekly or bi-weekly) driven by customer feedback and market demands, Pricebook needed a robust, scalable way to ensure quality without slowing down delivery.

The challenge

Despite a mature product and deep industry expertise, Pricebook faced a significant bottleneck in their software delivery pipeline:

  • Manual-only testing: All regression testing was performed manually by QA engineers.
  • Time-consuming process: A full regression suite took 2 full days to execute before every release.
  • Release delays: With 1 to 2-week release cycles, the 2-day testing window often caused bottlenecks, especially when defects were found late.
  • Scalability issues: As the application grew in complexity, with regards to dynamic pricing, location-based catalog rules, and multi-tenant configurations, the number of test scenarios ballooned, making manual testing unsustainable.

The team needed a way to automate regression testing quickly, without requiring developers or extensive technical training, so they could maintain agility while ensuring quality.

Our solution

Having been a trusted partner of Pricebook for over 15 years, we understood their domain and pain points deeply. When they expressed interest in test automation, we introduced Sedstart, our no-code, AI-powered test automation platform designed for business users and manual testers.

Key requirements:

  • Automate 100+ critical regression test cases within 2 months.
  • Enable existing manual testers to build and maintain tests without coding.
  • Focus on business-critical, high-usage, and repetitive workflows.

Our approach

Test case prioritization:

  • Business-critical user journeys.
  • High-frequency user actions.
  • Time-intensive or error-prone manual steps.

Proof of Concept (PoC)

We automated 5 complex end-to-end scenarios to demonstrate Sedstart’s capability to handle Pricebook’s intricate workflows. The PoC was delivered successfully and exceeded client expectations.

Rapid Scaling

Leveraging Sedstart’s intuitive interface, Pricebook’s manual testers began creating and executing automated tests from Day 1. Within 8 weeks, 100+ regression test cases were fully automated and integrated into their workflow.

CI/CD Integration

Automated test suites were embedded into Pricebook’s CI/CD pipeline, allowing on-demand or scheduled execution across multiple environments (dev, staging, prod).

The Result

The impact of Sedstart automation was immediate and transformative:

  • A 94% reduction in Regression testing time - reduced from 2 days to just 50 minutes.
  • Releases became faster, more predictable, and higher quality, with fewer last-minute defects.
  • QA team shifted focus from repetitive regression to exploratory and functional testing.
  • Development teams gained confidence to deploy frequently - no longer blocked by QA cycles.
  • Automated tests now run consistently across all environments, ensuring uniform validation.

Future Scope

Impressed by the results, Pricebook has expanded the engagement to include functional test automation. The next phase aims to automate an additional 200–300 functional test cases over the next 6 months, further embedding quality into every stage of the development lifecycle.
